Day 1 :

Marrakech - Ait Ben Haddou - Zagora

At 8:00 a.m., we depart Marrakech for our four-day Chegaga desert excursion in an air-conditioned 44. On the way to Morocco's most renowned ksar (an ancient hamlet of kasbahs), we traverse the High Atlas Mountains through the Tizi-n-Tichka Pass, which takes us through beautiful and attractive terrain. We'll have lunch in Ouarzazate or Agdez, depending on where we're staying. The route takes us through the palm-lined Draa Valley, complete with ancient Kasbahs. Either at Zagora's Hotel or under the Tent for a night with supper.

Day 2 :

Zagora – Mhamid – Erg Chigaga

Once we've finished breakfast, we'll travel to M'hamid (where the paved road ends) through Tamagroute, where we'll see one of Morocco's oldest Quranic libraries before visiting a neighboring kasbah famous for its potters' workshop.
In M'hamid, lunch will be served whenever you want. It's a long drive across the desert to get there, so we depart early in the afternoon to take in some of the sights. When you're in Erg Chigaga Dunes, the silence of the sands is deafening. See a beautiful sunset over the changing hues of the sand dunes as you ride your camels across them.

Day 3 :

Erg Chigaga – Foum Zguid – Ouarzazate

A new 90-kilometer stretch of desert brings us along the ancient "Rally Paris Dakar" route. Along the way, we pass the flat salt lake of Iriqui as well as the Anti Atlas mountains. After there, it's on to Foum Zguid, the first settlement after the desert, where the paved route begins. Post-lunch, go to the Berber hamlet of Taznakht, which is well-known for its Berber carpets.

Day 4 :

Ouarzazate – Kasbah Ait Ben Hadou – Marrakech

A stop to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Kasbah Ait Ben Hadou follows, where we'll see filming locations from the likes of "Gladiator" and the cult classics like "Indiana Jones" and "Lawrence of Arabia." Learn about Moroccan architecture by taking a walk through the Kasbahs. Through the High Atlas Mountains and the Tizi n'Tichka Pass, we make our way to Marrakesh. Depending on the time of day, lunch may be eaten at Ait Ben Hadou or in the Atlas Mountains on route to Marrakech.
