Itinerary

Marrakech is our last stop before crossing the Tizi n'Tichka Pass (2260m) to the south, where we'll be treated to stunning vistas of the Atlas Mountains and Berber Villages along the route. We have lunch at a local restaurant before continuing on to the World Heritage-listed Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. More than 20 films have used this world-famous kasbah as a background. Onward to the Skoura oasis, a lush region bordered by vast palm trees, after stopping for lunch at Ouarzazate, Morocco's entrance to the southern region. The Valley of Roses is the next stop after Skoura. Local residents depend on roses as a major crop enhancer. There is a specific start and finish date for the rose season, which varies from year to year. Two days in May are devoted to the Rose Festival, also known as the Moussem of Roses. Many events are held, such as folk music concerts and the Miss Roses pageant, with the winner riding on a decorated float in a parade. A wide range of traders and artisans from the area convene to offer their wares. You will eat supper and spend the night in your hotel when we get to the magnificent Dades Gorge on this last day.

For our next stop, we'll leave Dades Gorge after breakfast and drive across to the Todra Gorges, a huge fault that rises 200 meters above the valley floor and is peppered with palm trees and Berber settlements. Our next stop is Merzouga, which boasts Morocco's biggest natural subterranean water body and sits on the edge of Erg Chebbi's vast sand dunes, after lunch in the canyon. We had dinner at a local restaurant and stayed the night in Merzouga.

Drive to the hamlet of Khamlia after a leisurely breakfast and a visit to the Merzouga desert. They are descendants of Sudanese slaves who were transported to the United States. You'll get to know some locals and have a cup of mint tea with them while listening to Gnaoua music. A tiny hamlet to the south-east of the dunes, near to the coal and copper mines where most people in Merzouga used to earn their livelihood, will be our next destination. After that, we'll make one more stop at Merdane Village before continuing on to visit Berber families and returning to Merzouga town to check-in at your hotel. The' sea of sand's' mysteries will be revealed to you in the afternoon when you ride your camel and traverse the dunes. We'll make a pit break in a pristine paradise. Enjoy the desert's quiet, the grandeur of the natural world around you, and the magnificent sunset while you're there. Spend the evening under a blanket of stars that are dazzlingly bright. Enjoy a typical Berber camping experience.

Breakfast in the desert before heading to Rissani to see the typical Berber suq and the ruins of the Kasbah of Sijilmassa, which was built in the 9th century CE Our route now takes us across the Ziz Valley and Errachidia, leaving Rissani behind. Before reaching Azrou, where there is a cedar forest home to a Barbary monkey troop, we'll make a pit stop for lunch.
